THE ATA BRIEF (1)
CODE-Photo-Banner (3)

For leaders making digital integral to how care is accessed, delivered, and scaled.

Dear ATA Community,

I’m excited to share a preview of what’s ahead at the ATA Insights Summit 2025—our immersive, invitation-only event designed for healthcare leaders driving virtual care strategy and execution.

This year’s Summit brings together powerhouse ATA and Center of Digital Excellence (CODE) member health systems, including MedStar Health, Ochsner Health, WVU Medicine, and more, for a highly collaborative and hands-on experience. Over the course of three days in Orlando, participants will engage in eight closed-door Strategy Labs, each focused on solving real-world challenges across priority areas, including hybrid hospital models, AI across the continuum, digital maternity care, oncology care, and more.

We’re also thrilled to offer attendees the opportunity to take part in an on-site tour of Florida Medical Center, hosted by Orlando Health leaders. This tour will give participants a firsthand look at virtual care in action, including innovations in telestroke, smart rooms, RPM, hospital-at-home, and virtual nursing programs.

This isn’t your typical conference—it’s a working summit built to generate actionable tools, share field-tested frameworks, and spark new partnerships among senior healthcare leaders. Whether you’re scaling enterprise-wide virtual care or tackling a specific transformation initiative, you’ll leave with tangible insights you can implement immediately.

Special thanks to our Summit underwriters—Andor, hellocare, Artisight, AvaSure, and VirtuAlly—for their generous support in making this experience possible. Click here if you are interested in joining these underwriters.

Apply to attend today! Looking forward to seeing you in Orlando.

ATA Action Urges New DEA Administrator To Take Urgent Action

On July 22, Terry Cole, a longtime federal prosecutor and former U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, was confirmed as the new head of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). In a press release, ATA Action urged Administrator Cole to take urgent action to establish a permanent framework for the remote prescribing of controlled substances that protects both patients and providers while enhancing access to critical and lifesaving prescriptions and treatments.

ATA Action also co-led a stakeholder letter to Administrator Cole, signed by 200+ organizations, calling for a permanent special registration framework that supports both patient access and safety.

Sign Medicare Stakeholder Letter Urging Congress To Act!

Temporary waivers providing access to telehealth services for Medicare beneficiaries and the Acute Hospital Care at Home Program are set to expire on September 30, 2025 unless Congress acts now. Please join us and other telehealth stakeholders and sign this letter, urging Congressional leadership to make Medicare telehealth flexibilities permanent -- or at least approve a two year extension at a minimum -- to ensure stability for patients, providers and healthcare systems.

Deadline to sign on is midnight on August 1, 2025.

Senate Committee Chair Pushing for Bipartisan Bill Amid Partisan Tension

Senate health committee Chair Bill Cassidy (R-LA) is pushing to introduce a bipartisan healthcare bill in the next few weeks that could include many items omitted from the failed December 2024 lame duck package. The final federal government spending bill did not include a two-year extension of the Medicare telehealth flexibilities, which was in earlier versions of the bill. Read more in Inside Health Policy.

In advance of the looming September 30 deadline, and amid growing partisan pressure, ATA Action is scheduling a number of important meetings on Capitol Hill to ensure the telehealth flexibilities stay top of mind. We are strongly urging Congress and the Trump Administration to extend essential telehealth waivers for as long as possible in any moving legislative vehicle.

Continued Support for Telehealth Resource Centers

Last week, ATA Action submitted a statement to the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee supporting HR 3419 which would amend the Public Health Service Act to reauthorize the telehealth network and Telehealth Resource Centers (TRCs) grant programs. The National Consortium of Telehealth Resource Centers (NCTRC) and its twelve regional TRCs are dedicated to building sustainable telehealth programs and improving health outcomes for rural and underserved communities. ATA Action Weighs In on Healthcare Innovation

ATA Action submitted comments in response to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) request for information with the goal of removing unnecessary barriers to digital health access and promoting health care innovation.

Specifically, we voiced strong support to ensure continuation of Medicare telehealth Flexibilities, and removal of a number of outdated requirements, arbitrary restrictions, and unnecessary virtual care limitations. ATA Action also encouraged elimination of unnecessary digital health barriers and regulations that encourage innovation, including need for a clear Prescription Drug Use-Related Software (PDURS) framework to allow the integration of clinically validated digital tools into FDA-required labeling for pharmaceuticals.

    Virtual Foodcare Coalition Update

The Connecticut Department of Social Services (DSS) submitted a Medicaid State Plan Amendment (SPA) to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to cover Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) services rendered by certified dietitian-nutritionists enrolled in the state's Medicaid program.

ATA Action submitted comments in support of the SPA and encouraged the department to ensure that virtual modalities are supported by this expanded coverage.

    State Policy Update: Rhode Island

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha has issued an advance notice of proposed rulemaking entitled, Guidelines to Prevent Deceptive Trade Practices in the Use of Artificial Intelligence Decision-Making that Impacts Rights, Opportunities, or Access to Resources or Services. AG Neronha is currently evaluating whether or not additional regulation for AI is necessary or beneficial. ATA Action is planning to weigh in with high-level comments before the July 23 deadline.
