For leaders making digital integral to how care is accessed, delivered, and scaled.
Let’s Build What’s Next — Together
I’m excited to share that applications are now open for this year’s ATA Insights Summit, a program that reflects a meaningful shift in how we’re shaping our workat the ATA. This Summit is designed specifically for the healthcare delivery organizations at the core of our mission—health systems, community health centers, FQHCs, and the leaders on the frontlines of digital transformation.
Unlike a traditional conference, this year’s Summit features eight strategy labs—co-led by delivery leaders—designed as working groups to tackle real-world challenges. Topics include staffing models, care team redesign, hospital-at-home infrastructure, integrating AI across the continuum, expanding RPM, supporting aging in place, advancing digital oncology models, improving pediatric subspecialty access, developing maternity command centers, and scaling clinically validated digital interventions.
These conversations won’t end in November; they’ll help inform the tools, playbooks, and standards that will support our field long-term. I'm proud to help shape this year’s Summit, and I look forward to the work we’ll continue to build together.

CODE Spotlight: Bridging the Virtual Care Gap: How Mayo Clinic Integrates Hospital-at-Home and Remote Patient Monitoring to Enhance Post-Hospital Care
Presented At: NEXUS | May 2025 Session Focus: Bridging Hospital at Home and RPM, care continuity across platforms, workforce models, future AI-powered monitoring, and new metrics like “healthy days at home.” Speakers: Greg Beliles, FACHE;Angela Leuenberger, MS; Michael Maniaci, MD
Mayo Clinic leaders shared how they are building a fully integrated, decentralized care model that combines Hospital at Home, Remote Patient Monitoring, and emerging digital health solutions to extend care beyond hospital walls.
Since launching:
6,000+ Hospital at Home patients served
24,000 bed days saved, expanding inpatient capacity
~30,000 RPM patients monitored since 2016
19 active RPM programs across multiple clinical conditions
How they’re doing it:
Seamless Care Continuum: Inpatient-level care at home (Hospital at Home), enterprise-wide RPM, and full care team coordination — all powered by an integrated command center, supplier network, and EHR-connected tech.
Future Focus: Shifting toward continuous, non-invasive, AI-supported monitoring — building what Mayo calls a “digital hug” around the patient.
Quote of the Spotlight:
“Patients don’t experience care in silos — our models have to reflect that. The goal is a continuous, unified care journey that works for patients, caregivers, and clinicians alike.”
Association Between Telehealth Use and Downstream 30-Day Medicare Spending
A new Medicare study finds that telehealth visits cost less than in-person care without leading to excessive follow-up or testing. Among Medicare Fee for Service (FFS) beneficiaries (65+), 30-day spending after a telehealth visit averaged $260 vs. $342 for in-person care. Telehealth visits also involved fewer lab tests (7.8% vs. 24.2%) and imaging studies (3.5% vs. 7.8%), with only a modest increase in follow-up visits (16.1% vs. 14.1%).
Key takeaway: Telehealth can deliver meaningful cost savings and reduce unnecessary testing when used as a substitute for in-person care—supporting its continued role in Medicare policy.

GROWING INTEREST IN VIRTUAL FOODCARE COALITION
We are securing meetings at both state and federal levels to influence policy in the virtual foodcare space. Last week, we met with the newly formed Delaware Food Is Medicine Committee and will soon meet with the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). HRSA is the primary federal agency focused on improving healthcare access for the uninsured, isolated, and medically vulnerable and is very interested to understand the Coalition's priorities.
Our Policy Principles for Virtual Foodcare provide a clear framework for developing and supporting policies that promote the delivery of personalized dietary interventions and nutritional guidance, using telehealth and digital health technologies to deliver food and nutritional support to maintain health, prevent disease, and manage chronic conditions.
